Have you just received fresh flowers? Are you wondering how to care for your fresh flowers?
Here are a few flower care tips that can help your fresh flowers last longer.
- If your flowers were delivered in a plastic wrap or sleeve, discard the plastic wrap/sleeve as soon as possible
- If you received loose flowers or a hand tied bouquet, cut the flower stems at an angle, prior to putting them in a vase filled with fresh water. Cutting at an angle allows the flowers to absorb water more efficiently. The vase should be thoroughly cleaned prior to using it.
- You can mix the water with flower preservative (if provided by your florist)
- Do not allow foliage or leaves to come in contact with the water. Contact with water will encourage bacteria growth, which will affect the freshness of the water. You will know the water is no longer fresh when it looks cloudy
- If you received flowers arranged in floral foam, ensure you add fresh water to the floral foam everyday
- Do not keep your flowers in a room or area that is too hot or near direct sunlight. Most flowers will last longer in a cool environment
- Do not place your flowers near fresh fruits or cigarette smoke. This is because they produce small amounts of ethylene gas which will shorten the life of your flowers
- Avoid keeping your flowers in areas with a lot of draft
- Check your flowers daily and remove any dry or dying flowers
Taking care of your fresh flowers will allow them to stay fresh for a longer period of time. Which means you get to enjoy them for a lot longer. Reach out to your florist if you have questions specific to the type of flowers you received. Your florist will be knowledgeable enough to advice you appropriately.
